Weight Loss Timeline Calculator

Weight Loss Timeline Calculator

Explore possible milestone dates for a weight-loss goal. Compare three illustrative paces, map out your journey, and make a plan that leaves room for real life.

← Explore all free tools

Plan your timeline

Enter your starting and goal weights. You’ll see a timeline based on the pace you choose—not a promised finish date.

Defaults to today. Change it to explore a different starting date.

Choose an illustrative weekly pace

Paces are examples—not prescriptions. Each percentage applies to the remaining current weight in each modeled week, so the illustrative weekly amount gradually decreases.

Optional: add your height to check BMI context

If supplied, we’ll flag goals below the standard adult BMI 18.5 reference threshold. BMI has important limitations.

A timeline, not a deadline.

Weight loss isn’t a race or a perfectly straight line. Water, medications, activity, stress, and other factors can change the scale from one week to the next.

  • Use the dates as planning examples.
  • Track trends rather than single weigh-ins.
  • Review and adjust your plan as your needs change.

How we calculate it

The selected pace is a simple mathematical scenario. We reduce the remaining body weight by the same selected percentage each week; this is not a physiological model of your metabolism.

For a more individualized energy-balance model, explore the NIH Body Weight Planner.

Your illustrative goal date

Total goal change—
First week’s example—

Your milestones

Checkpoints at 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of the total weight change toward your goal.

Compare the three scenarios

These are alternative planning assumptions, not a predicted confidence range.

The line only visualizes the selected mathematical scenario. Real weight trends won’t follow it exactly.

Why real timelines change

Early weight changes often include water and glycogen, while longer-term progress can slow as habits, energy expenditure, and other factors change. A fixed daily calorie shortfall does not translate into a perfectly predictable weight loss or guaranteed date.

Read when weight-loss results become noticeable, what to do about plateaus, and how to keep weight off.

Useful next steps

  • Use the Weight Loss Percentage Calculator to measure progress toward a goal.
  • Visit the BMI Calculator for adult screening context, not a diagnosis or target.
  • Estimate nutritional needs with our Protein Calculator.

For adults aged 20+ only. This is a general planning illustration, not a personalized medical forecast or diet prescription. It is not designed for pregnancy, breastfeeding, eating-disorder treatment, or complex medical circumstances. If your health or goal weight raises concerns, consult a qualified healthcare professional.
