Choose the time you need to wake up or when you expect to get into bed. This planner uses your sleep-duration goal instead of assuming every sleep cycle lasts exactly 90 minutes.
We’ll work backwards to estimate when to get into bed.
This is an adult planning example. Your actual time asleep can vary due to awakenings, health, schedule changes, and how long you take to fall asleep. An eight-hour sleep goal may require more than eight hours in bed.

Build a sleep-friendly evening
There isn’t one perfect bedtime for everyone. A regular routine, enough time in bed, and waking up at a reasonably consistent time can help.
- Give yourself a quiet period before bed; dim bright lights and put stimulating tasks aside.
- Keep your room dark, quiet and comfortably cool.
- Pay attention to caffeine late in the day and alcohol near bedtime, which can disrupt sleep.
- Make your wind-down routine flexible rather than treating every minute as a rule.
Most adults need at least seven hours of sleep; individual needs vary, and older adults may have somewhat different recommendations.
Your personal sleep log
Track how long you slept and how rested you felt. This stays in your browser when local storage is available — no account needed.
What about the 90-minute sleep cycle trick?
Sleep moves between non-REM and REM stages throughout the night. But cycles don’t all last exactly 90 minutes, and the time spent in each stage changes as the night progresses.
A time calculator cannot know your actual sleep stage or guarantee that a particular alarm time will feel refreshing. That’s why this tool focuses on a realistic sleep opportunity instead.
Sleep can affect appetite, energy and food decisions. Better sleep may support a weight-management routine, but it doesn’t directly guarantee fat loss.

How this sleep calculator works
Choose your wake-up time or bedtime, a sleep-duration target, and how long you want to allow for falling asleep. The calculator adds or subtracts those times across midnight when necessary. The wind-down reminder is placed before your planned bedtime.
Unlike a sleep-stage tracker, it does not measure whether you actually slept, experienced awakenings, or completed a sleep cycle. The sleep log contains only the entries you choose to record.
